The garden palapa was built adjacent to the nursery in a central location. It is a multi-use space, constructed using traditional palapa construction technology and local materials. It has an earth-based floor and provides a cool, sheltered space for a variety of activities. Our palapa maestro, Trino - took the lead on construction, and much of the palm timber was donated by our friend Kim in Santiago.
The initial reason for construction of the palapa was to provide a multi-use workspace. It has since been found comfortable and practical for community use for relaxation, yoga, meetings and generally protected ‘hangout space’. This function may be replaced by other structures in the future, at which time it might return to it’s originally intended purpose.
